My Dear Friend, when explaining stories to kids we
have ageneral discussion about the topic to have some idea before reading. Then we try to relate the title of the story to the text and ask them to predict what the story will be about and what we expect from this story. While reading we explain the general idea(events and why everything is happening that is to help the kids understand better and use the language more) and the new vocabulary ( kids should already know them before). After that we discuss the characters, the setting, the plot and the conflict ( other story elements) . About the activities we have role playing, group work, story telling, guessing games, and prediction. At home your kids should listen to the story ( from a tape or if you can read to them) ,then read and explain, they can search for a movie for the story and watch it, after reading they could try acting out the story and they may even change the ending to see what will happen. I hope you will enjoy it and find it useful
